A down-on-his-luck man partners with a synthetic woman for a heist in a near-future Britain where automation has eroded humanity. The episode’s aesthetic blends retro-futurism with bleak coastal landscapes, creating a world where even sunlight feels artificial. A visually striking meditation on exploitation and decay.
One of the first major HETV anthology series to follow the success of Black Mirror, this was a large-scale production made up of five feature-length episodes, with three separate art departments working under the Production Designer. My focus was on location builds, and this marked my first experience leading a set — under the supervision of Beckie Harvey — from initial scouts and recces through to draughting, overseeing construction, and final installation on location, along with action vehicle breakdowns and DooDs.
I also built on previous experience with vehicle modifications, designing a range of options for the scripted cars. Although time and budget limited what made it to screen, the research and design process was a valuable experience in itself.
